Your teenager should start to research information on careers they may be interested in. Doing an interest questionnaire such as Kudos may help.
Your teenager should begin to draw up a short-list of higher education courses and institutions. They may also want to attend local or national higher education fairs; they are a good source of useful information and advice. They can also attend higher education open days and any link courses which are available.
Encourage your teenager to watch higher education videos and consult official and alternative prospectuses. They might also want to explore opportunities for sponsorship.
Your teenager should begin to draw up a short list of career ideas. They can research which companies might have employment opportunities.
They can start to compile a CV if they don’t already have one.

Candidates for Oxford or Cambridge or those wanting to study medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or veterinary science should obtain application details ready to apply by 15th October.

Your teenager will need to complete their application to UCAS using 'Apply' the UCAS on-line application system. Apply for Art Foundation courses directly to the institution.
15 January is the official closing date for most UCAS applications. Help you teenager complete their student support form, when available. They should also attend higher education open days and/or interviews.
Encourage your teenager to see their Personal Adviser in school or college.
They can send speculative letters and CVs to employers. They should also look in local press and on school and college noticeboards for vacancies.

Encourage your teenager to find out about the guidance and advice available at Connexions Centres in case their results are not what they expect them to be.
Exam results are published. Make sure your teenager is at home, not on holiday. Your teenager can visit your local Connexions Centre for help.
